Rothenburg Webcam

Today we'll be in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The city maintains two webcams that take pictures every 30 seconds/1 minute and shows them online here:

We'll be there from 11 am to 1 pm German time (4 am to 6 am Iowa time), but you can take a look any time to see where we'll be!

Wartburg comes to Wartburg

Today we arrived--finally!--at the Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Germany. (Although the last post was also from Germany, we've been to Austria and the Czech Republic since then. Unfortunately, our internet access is intermittent at best and our bloggers are evidently a bit preoccupied.)

Back to the story. We toured the Wartburg Castle and heard all about a variety of Wartburgy tales, including its founding by Ludwig the Leaper, the many artistic and intellectual events that have taken place there, and the story of St. Elizabeth (whom we commemorate each year at Wartburg College with St. Elizabeth Week).

And because I like picture posts, I've spared no expense to include this snapshot of the Wind Ensemble graduating seniors and Dr. Hancock in front of the Burg!

Another pic from Germany

Today we visited Neuschwanstein Castle, home of the nutty King Ludwig II. And it didn't rain on us for once!

Do you see what I see?

You don't, unless you're in Germany. But now you do, because this is a snapshot of the town hall in Bremen, as seen on our walking tour during a brief day trip yesterday.

Auf Deutsch!

Guten Abend! It's 22:30 over here in Germany (10:30 PM for the non-24 hour clockers) and it's been a great time in a great country. Many of us had our first experience staying with a family who's first language is not english. Many also had a wonderful time and were sad to leave said homestays. The tour has traveled through Amstersdam and Zeven in the last few days and we are currently in Schwanheim just outside of Frankfurt om Main. Tomorrow we look forward to a tour of castles and historic sights on a boat tour down the Rhine River. We also look forward to another concert full of english, german, and musical languages. Until next time: aufwedersehn!

We're here and we're having a jolly good time!

First, I want to alay anyone's fears about us still sleeping in an airport, we've officially been in London for a whole day now and everyone is having an awesome time! Many of us toured the downtown area with Dr. Hancock and Dr. Pfaltzgraff. These tours included such sights as the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral, the British National Museum, and many more. Many of us also covered countless miles on the Tube, which is the subway for those of you not familiar with the London area, and for some this was a first time subway experience. Overall it's been a wonderful start to our tour here in the UK. Tomorrow we're off to Liverpool for our first concert!
